Just had to be amongst the first lucky people to get in after the preview week-end in January… so here am I, on friday june 7th, 9 am…. and the Mucem kept all of it’s promises: it’s totally glorious in the sun, as it embraces the blues of the sea and the skies between it’s delicate concrete lacing.<\/p>\n

During the opening week-end, the entrance was free: over 63 000 people visited the Mucem, about 20% of the projected annual visitors’ count. The queue was approximately 400m long throughout the week-end, mostly locals, that tells it all about the fascination that this building has created for the people of Marseille.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another note on the open concept of the MUCEM: the museum’s architecture is opened to all for free, only the exhibitions are charged. And because of the way Rudy Riciotti\u00a0designed the building, one can freely tour it, enjoy the incredible views, play with the shades of the concrete lace, recline on the loungers of the terrace and feel proud of belonging here. This kind of creation is what real democracy is about…. Well done Rudy!<\/p>\n
