Londres est toujours une mine d’inspiration et de d\u00e9couvertes, et maintenant que nous n’y habitons plus, il y a le plaisir d’y d\u00e9couvrir les h\u00f4tels! Aujourd’hui le Dean Street Town House, petit h\u00f4tel appartenant au m\u00eame groupe que l’uber-cool Babington House… il s’av\u00e8re a la hauteur de mes esp\u00e9rances: parquet de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration, meubles de m\u00e9tier bien patines, chambres cosy, pleines de caract\u00e8re et d’attentions d\u00e9licates comme la gamme \u00ab\u00a0cow shed\u00a0\u00bb au complet dans la salle de bain a la New Yorkaise.<\/div>\n

I love London for trend spotting and a bit of inspiration: the hotel looks like a very good place to start. The Dean Street Town House, little brother to the Babington House is small but well formed and perfectly fitted to my expectations (I always dreamt of spending a week-end @ the Babington House, but must say it was difficult to justify, even to myself, to prefer a week-end in wet British countryside to one in sunny Provence….)<\/div>\n

Para buscar inspiraciones y revisar las tendencias, Londres me fascina, este pequeno hotel en Soho, hermano pequeno de la mitica Babington House es el lugar perfecto para empezar.. Aqui una vista de su restaurante que en realidad esta siempre lleno, pero vale la espera..<\/div>\n

Disappointingly, the main and most interesting room of the 20th century design was closed to public… So I headed for the\u00a0Islamic Middle East wing, and admired rug and fabric patterns that have not only not aged a second, but make some of the \u00ab\u00a0modern\u00a0\u00bb ones look very dull. Also stopped in front of the minute work of the chimney breast tiling with it’s elaborated tiles from Turkey, telling the history of the seven sleepers, and a bit further, the carved tiles from the XIVth century’ Uzbekistan, adorning the tomb of a descendant of Genghis Khan<\/div>\n

Visite au V&A, l’aile du moyen orient d\u00e9voile quelques mat\u00e9riaux de toute beaut\u00e9, et tout a fait actuels malgres les si\u00e8cles qu’ils ont traverse: Tapis d’Asie mineure, carrelages \u00e9labor\u00e9 habillant une chemin\u00e9e (d’origine Turque) en racontant l’histoire des Sept dormeurs, et carrelages travailles dans la masse du XVIe si\u00e8cle habillant originellement la tombe d’un descendant de Genghis Khan en Uzbekistan….petit voyage sur un tapis volant…<\/div>\n

Viaje inm\u00f3vil en el V&A, admirando el trabajo elegante, sofisticado y tan actual de los artesanos del medio oriente..unos siglos mas tarde sus obras son todav\u00eda muy actuales, desde los dibujos de las alfombras hasta las cer\u00e1micas esculturales del Uzbekistan (siglo XVI)<\/div>\n

Walking down the balcony. the surreal surprise of this encounter with the David, almost head to head…. it’s the cast court behind renovated room and casts, very cool to be able to see the experts cleaning up the artwork<\/div>\n

Au d\u00e9tour d’une galerie, on se retrouve nez a nez avec un David… autre voyage immobile? Il s’agit en fait d’une reproduction faisant partie du \u00ab\u00a0Cast court\u00a0\u00bb, un ensemble de reproductions de sculptures classiques qui permettait au \u00e9tudiants et artistes d’admirer le savoir faire des anciens sans se ruiner a une \u00e9poque ou Ryan air n’existait pas (attention, ne vous m\u00e9prenez pas, ceci n’est pas une pub pour eux: je les fuit comme la peste..). Cette pi\u00e8ce est ferm\u00e9e pour r\u00e9novations, mais on peu l’admirer depuis le balcon ainsi que le minutieux travail des restaurateurs.<\/div>\n

A la vuelta de un balcon, uno se sorprende encontrarse frente a un David: se trata de la \u00ab\u00a0Cast court\u00a0\u00bb une galeria dedicada a reproducciones en hieso de las esculturas cl\u00e1sicas, formada a una \u00e9poca en la cual viajar no era una actividad tan masiva como hoy. La galer\u00eda esta cerrada a publico para renovaci\u00f3n, pero uno puede admirarla desde un balc\u00f3n, as\u00ed como el trabajo minucioso de los restauradores<\/div>\n

…after (or more exactly before) the meatpacking district in our last trip to NY, here we are near the smithfield market, a dinner at St John’s left me vegetarian for a while, delicious thaw…. and in very good company, as most of our friends seem to congregate back to London….<\/div>\n

The Smithfield market is not exactly a tourist attraction, it is definitely still working hard, for when it is bed time for us, their day just seems to be starting.<\/div>\n
